impact update of LA Fires
Since the fires started last week, SAMO Fund has been standing by for updates as first responders and essential personnel work tirelessly on the front lines. Late last week a briefing to NPS and SAMO Fund staff, updated the team on the fire suppression efforts and the impacts to the landscape in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Resource Advisors from various agencies have been present along the fire lines to help with fire suppression repair. Fire suppression repair restores areas impacted by wildfire response, including repairing fire lines made by bulldozers and Hotshot Crews, stabilizing soil to prevent erosion, and rehabilitating sensitive habitats.
These efforts help protect the region's unique ecosystems and preserve its natural beauty for future generations. Some concerns include identifying archaeological finds, manage rare plant data and wild animal data.
Next week, Burned Area Emergency Response experts from around the country will arrive on site to assess, map and anticipate problems with vegetation, cultural resources such as Native American sites, hydrology, paleontology finds and more.
DID YOU KNOW?
Bulldozers and Hotshot Crews are used to create fire lines to help control wildfires.
Bulldozers remove flammable material and create fire lines. This makes the soil bare, which helps prevent the fire from spreading.
Hotshot crews are highly trained firefighters who work on the most difficult parts of wildfires. They are part of interagency crews and can be deployed for all phases of wildfire management.
